This application process is for Dallas Police Department officers ONLY.

Applications are due by August 1st, 2017. 

If you have five years on, are at the rank of police officer or senior corporal, and are in good departmental standing then:

  • Provide proof of your chain of command approval to attend (contact to get further information to forward to them, or feel free to give them that contact info if they have questions about the program)

  • Fill out the applicant information sheet linked here

  • Submit a written statement that expresses your interest and intent in applying to the program. In that statement, you are required to describe what legacy you intend to leave at DPD

  • Submit three letters of recommendation. At least one of those letters needs to come from a current supervisor (at any level).

You can gather all of these materials in hard copy and submit to Jennifer Davis-Lamm with the Caruth Police Institute at Jack Evans (we are on the first floor), or you can scan and email them.

Also, please be aware that the class spans three weeks. It will be held daily from 8 until 5, Monday through Friday, Sept 18 through Sept. 22; Oct 2 through Oct 6; and Oct 16 through Oct 20 at the Meadows Foundation near downtown Dallas. 

College credit is available at minimal cost to you.  

Finally, there will be outside work and course deliverables, including reading assignments, a written project and presentation. There will be some time allowed in class to complete those things.
