Distance Learning Course Approval

Distance Learning Course Approval Process

Overall, in collaboration with the faculty, DLIT will continue to strive to offer quality online, hybrid, and hyflex courses, and for courses to be offered distance learning, notification of contacting the Office of Distance Learning and Instructional Technology by adhering to the following:.

  1. Faculty will need to complete and sign page 2 of the “Request to Develop and Deliver an Online Course” form for new distance learning courses (i.e. previously offered face-to-face, newly approved by Curriculum Committee, new instructional modality).  Once signed, it should be then emailed to DLIT's instructional designer.  This will allow DLIT to track the new courses in development and ensure that they reach our institution's 75% quality standard score.
  2. R-6 Form changes are still required to add distance learning courses to the official class roster and must continue to be routed through DLIT for review, but courses will not be held from the schedule due to unmet quality standards as proposed by previous leadership.  If the R-6 includes a new distance  learning course, faculty must ensure the “Request to Develop and Deliver an Online Course” form is on file with DLIT to ensure their active participation in an ongoing development process and commitment to designing a quality course based on institutions and federal accreditation quality standards.
  3. Once an R-6 is reviewed by DLIT, a Canvas Development Course Shell will be created where faculty is required to design their course.  The DLIT Development Shell Template content will be manually imported into the shell, if requested by faculty.
  4. Courses fully developed, previously approved (meeting all RSI standards), and/or previously taught in Canvas may be added to a given semester schedule up to the "Final Quality Review" date listed below for each semester.

Distance Learning Course Approval Deadlines

The following schedule indicates key deadline dates for online and hybrid course approval and development.  Early submissions are recommended to allow adequate time for course development. Instructor training may fall outside the listed timeframes.

Final Quality Review deadline refers to having the course review complete. All course development should be completed well before posted Final Quality Review deadline allowing time for faculty self-review and for DLIT to review the completed course.
