Program Overview: 

The UNT Dallas Outstanding Trailblazer Award program provides recognition to nominated faculty and staff members. Faculty recipients are awarded with a letter of recognition and staff recipients are awarded 8 hours of paid administrative leave as recognition for their outstanding contribution to the University. All staff, faculty, students, administrators, visitors, and alumni may submit nominations for this award at any time. Employees may not nominate themselves. The department head approves the nomination and Human Resources reviews the nomination to ensure that eligibility requirements are met. The total amount of staff paid leave may not exceed one standard workday (8 hours) and the recipient must use the paid leave awarded within twelve (12) months of receiving the award hours. The Outstanding Trailblazer Award leave hours are not eligible for payment upon termination of employment. 

Eligibility Criteria Include the Following: 

Any regular staff employee, exempt or non-exempt, who lives the University’s mission and is a role model exemplifying our core values. 

o Resilience: Adapts and even thrives amidst challenges and obstacles. 

o Unity: Works cooperatively as a member of a team. 

o Excellence: Goes the extra mile to serve our customers with tact and style. 

o Mentoring: Commits to public service, community service learning, and/or partnerships with other businesses and organizations. 

o Integrity: Demonstrates honest and ethical behavior that displays a high moral standard. 

o Effectiveness: Identifies ways to improve processes and initiates productivity enhancements. 

o Strategic: Aligns day-to-day actions with the University’s mission & vision. 

o Diversity: Embraces differences with respect to every individual’s exceptional contribution to society. 

• The employee must work for the University in a retirement-eligible staff position for at least six (6) consecutive months prior to the date of nomination. 

• Employee has not received an Outstanding Trailblazer Award in the prior fiscal year. 

• Employee’s performance review rating is at a minimum of 3.0 or above for the previous review cycle. 

• Employee does not have any prior discipline on file in Human Resources within the twelve (12) months prior to the date of nomination. 

Nomination Guidelines: 

Outstanding Trailblazer Award nomination forms will be submitted electronically through the link provided on the form. HR will ensure that the nominee meets the required eligibility criteria. The nomination form is then forwarded to the following for approval: department or unit head and Vice President of the unit. After approval, the Vice President will submit the form to HR for processing. HR will provide notification to the employee and the supervisor of the approved award and established vacation hours in EIS.
