ethics day

On September 29, 2017, UNT Dallas hosted the Inaugural Nicholas D. and Anna G. Ricco Ethics Day Student Scholarship Contest from 9:00 a.m.-4:30 p.m. in Founders Hall 138. More than 260 undergraduate, graduate, and law school students applied to participate in this event, and 88 were selected based on essay prompt responses.

The day included remarks from the Riccos, a keynote speaker during lunch, and two ethics-based contests (one written, one team-based). The event concluded with the awarding of 12 student scholarships totaling $15,000. The scholarships and event were made possible by the generosity of Nicholas D. and Anna G. Ricco.

"We are thankful to creat this Ethics Day program within the UNT System. Ethics, like good grades, can become elusive, and for every example, there can be a variable which modifies our understanding," said Commander Nicholas Ricco. "Ethics, like the language we speak, must become part of our consciousness. Essentially we still need to discover the right way to act towards each other. My mother called it respect.

Just as you search for answers to equations, evaluate chemical compounds, and look for the texts for your final exams, so too should you seek and establish your own ethical standards before opportunities present themselves."

The $15,000 in scholarships will be awarded as follows:

1st Place Prize ($3,000):

  • Semaj Garret

2nd Place Prize ($2,000):
