The Caruth Police Institute (CPI), led by Dr. Melinda Schlager, continues to receive recognition and support for its research efforts and law enforcement training programs. Recent projects and accomplishments include:

  • CPI finalized a $500k efficiency study grant, with half of the funding coming from the Communities Foundation of Texas, and half of the funds coming from the City of Dallas.
  • CPI is launching an “implicit bias” training program for the Dallas Independent School District’s Police Department – another first. The study runs from April 11-13, 2017.
  • CPI received $20,000 for a youth offender training program with the Dallas County District Attorney’s Office.
  • Assisting the Dallas Police Department with a pro bono marketing effort with Richards Group that seeks to improve the department’s image in minority communities.
  • CPI is working closely with Meadows Mental Health Policy Institute on the Right Choice program that cross trains social workers, fire fighters, and police officers in mental and behavioral health-related calls.
