A DFW Future Teachers Summit was recently held on the UNT Dallas campus, hosting over 250 current and aspiring teachers. It was the first such event at UNTD, but the most recent in a regional effort between The Commit Partnership, the national nonprofit Teach.org, as well as local universities to recruit, train and retain top talent to become teachers.

The TeachDFW.org program gives future and current teachers practical information and advice on topics ranging from classroom preparation to salary ranges. It is expected that Dallas County school districts will need to fill over 30,000 vacant teaching positions through 2021.

“This is an incredibly important movement to encourage bright young people to get in the teaching professions,” said UNT Dallas President Bob Mong. “That they chose to conduct the Summit on our campus is a reflection of the great work our Emerging Teacher Institute is doing. It’s a huge for us to host this conference and promote careers in teaching.”

Emerging Teacher Institute Dean John Gasko also addressed the attendees.
