More than 20 students, alumni, faculty, and staff from the University of North Texas at Dallas were recognized March 31, 2016 for their success and dedication to the Society of Human Resources Management Student Chapter. Human resources professionals from four North Texas organizations also were recognized for their commitment and contributions to the SHRM Chapter at UNT Dallas.

Amy Ross, founder and CEO of HumanKind HR in Dallas, served as the event’s keynote speaker. Pulling from years of experience in the human resources industry, Ross shared her desire to create a better world one leader at a time. She reminded students that everyone has the power to change the direction of their life and become a leader.

“When I started at UNT Dallas, I never thought I’d get a master’s degree, but Dr. Muniz believed in me,” said Kelli Strickland, SHRM president, M.B.A. student and OB/HR alumna. “She’s given us so many opportunities, and now I don’t want to leave. Joining SHRM was one of the best decisions I made while attending UNT Dallas. I’ve become a better leader, and I’ve enjoyed working alongside all of you as a team on our many accomplishments this year. Thank you Dr. Muniz and UNT Dallas.”

Some of SHRM’s notable accomplishments from 2015-2016 include:

  • Named “Honorable Mention” Student Chapter at SHRM National Conference
  • Michelle Brockway and Shelby Boggs earned SHRM Certified status
  • Named Best in Student Showcase Region 6 ACBSP
  • Completed an experiential learning project with Life School
  • Conducted Military Veterans Resume Writing and Interview Skills Workshop
  • Hosted Critical Thinking Workshop Video Conference with University of Puerto Rico Mayaguez
  • Attended HR Southwest Conference
  • Attended National SHRM Conference

Several HR professionals and area organizations were recognized for their investment in the profession and their partnerships with UNT Dallas.

“On behalf of UNT Dallas, thank you to all of the community partners and organizations for bridging the gap between academics and the corporate world,” said Dr. Lois Becker, vice president of academic affairs and university provost. “The work you’ve done with our students has created a model of success, and established the organizational behavior and human resources program as a crown jewel of UNT Dallas.”
