Dallas - (May 14, 2018) – The University of North Texas at Dallas is bringing one of its own back to serve as keynote speaker for its commencement ceremony on Friday, May 18 – Jaime Resendez, a U.S. Army combat veteran, UNT Dallas alumnus and elected member of the Dallas Independent School District Board of Trustees. UNT Dallas Commencement will begin at 5 p.m. on May 18 at the IBOC Auditorium, located at 7701 S Westmoreland Road in Dallas.

In 2016, Resendez was elected to serve on the Dallas ISD Board of Trustees. As a board member, Resendez represents the same area where he grew up – DISD’s District 4, which includes 24 schools in Pleasant Grove, Balch Springs, and Seagoville. Resendez earned his bachelor’s degree from UNT Dallas, and also has a law degree from The University of Texas School of Law. He is an attorney, licensed to practice law by the State Bar of Texas and before the U.S. District Court in the Northern District of Texas.

“We call our students trailblazers because they use education as a catalyst to reach new milestones in life and Jaime Resendez is one of us,” said UNT Dallas President Bob Mong. “Jaime embodies the trailblazer spirit and serves as a shining example of what you can become when hard word and education come together.”

The son of Mexican immigrants, Resendez enlisted in the U.S. Army as an engineer before graduating from high school and served for eight years, including a yearlong tour of duty in Baghdad, Iraq. Fluent in Spanish, today Resendez is committed to serving his community and is actively involved in various organizations and professional associations. His areas of law practice over the years include personal injury, criminal law, and social security disability appeals.

Resendez has been recognized with numerous awards, medals, and scholarships throughout his military and educational careers.
