Ronald T. Brown Officially Named President of UNT Dallas

UNTS – The University of North Texas System (UNTS) Board of Regents has named Ronald T. Brown, Ph.D., president of the University of North Texas at Dallas (UNT Dallas), effective July 1.

The Board approved the appointment at a special called board meeting on Tuesday, March 26. Brown was named sole finalist for the presidency of UNT Dallas at a Board of Regents meeting last month.

Brown will succeed UNT Dallas Founding President John Ellis Price who announced last summer that he would be stepping down at the conclusion of his current contract. Price has served as CEO of UNT Dallas since 2001.

“We are pleased to have someone of Dr. Brown’s stature serve as the second president of UNT Dallas,” said UNT System Board of Regents Chairman Jack Wall. “He is the right leader to take this university to the next level and he brings great experience to the presidency.”

Currently, Brown is provost and senior vice president for academic affairs at Wayne State University, a major public university with more than 32,000 students in Detroit, Michigan. Previously, he served as dean of the College of Health Professions and Social Work and interim dean of the School of Dentistry at Temple University in Philadelphia. Additionally, Brown has held academic positions in public and private institutions, including Emory University, the University of Illinois, and the University of Adelaide.

“I am honored by the Board’s confidence in me,” said Dr. Brown. “It is a once in a lifetime opportunity to lead a young university. I look forward to building on the foundation laid by President Price and all those who have worked to establish UNT Dallas.”

Brown is a distinguished scholar who has published nine books and more than 300 academic articles and is the recipient of numerous accolades. Brown received his bachelor’s degree from Emory University and his Ph.D. from Georgia State University. He completed the Management Development Program and the Institute for Management Leadership in Education at Harvard University and is a licensed and board certified psychologist.
