Dallas - (April 16, 2018) – The University of North Texas at Dallas, along with renowned journalist Roland Martin, will team up to host a fundraiser dinner benefitting the Fred F. Florence Middle School’s Young Men’s Leadership Academy (YMLA) on Wednesday, April 18 from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. To attend this very special event, contact the UNT Dallas Office of Institutional Advancement at 972-338-1100 or Advancement@UNTDallas.edu – tickets are just $150 and support YMLA.

The dinner, which will be held at UNT Dallas, will include an in-depth conversation with Martin. A percentage of the funds to be designated for priority needs for YMLA at Florence Middle School – an organization with the mission to ensure that all scholars excel academically and socially into next generation leaders, equipped with the college and career readiness tools to become productive citizens in a global society. This event is part of a concerted effort by UNT Dallas to help young men find their pathway to leadership.

“The Fred F. Florence Middle School’s Young Men’s Leadership Academy (YMLA) is a program that resonates with all of us here at UNT Dallas,” says President Bob Mong. “The YMLA program embodies what we strive to UNTD – achieving better opportunities through education.”

The program also resonates with Martin, a native Texan who is a syndicated columnist and author.  Martin is the host and managing editor of TV One Cable Network, where for four years he hosted “NewsOneNow,” the first daily morning show in history focused on news and analysis of politics, entertainment, sports and culture from an explicitly African American perspective. Martin will also make a visit to Fred F. Florence Middle School as part of this program.

“Roland Martin is a national thought leader and we are eager to hear his insights on education and culture,” Mong said. “On behalf of UNT Dallas and our friends from YMLA, I say thank you to Mr. Martin for his generosity.”
