• Community Leadership Academy: The United Way is sponsoring the first Community Leadership Academy as part of its grant with the UNT Dallas Urban SERCH Institute. The pilot grant calls for SERCH to conduct two community leadership development sessions where citizens in southern Dallas and police officers out of uniform work through a guided discussion. The United Way touts it as “the nation’s first leadership development program uniting law enforcement officers with citizens they serve.” The opening ceremony is from 6-8 p.m. on Monday May 22, 2017 in Founders Hall Room 138.
  • Harmony Community Development: Dr. Larry Terry, director of the Urban SERCH Institute, recently participated in the Harmony Community Development Corporation’s annual meeting as part of a community conversation panel.
  • Staff Professional Development Day, June 23: Staff Council will host a half-day professional development opportunity for UNT Dallas staff members from noon to 4:30 p.m., Friday, June 23, 2017. The theme is Community. Connectedness. Change. The keynote speaker is UNT Dallas alum David Bowens.
  • Faculty Development Day April 21: UNT Dallas faculty had an opportunity to attend a professional development day in April that proved to be productive and substantive.
  • Supervisory Building Blocks: UNT Dallas has had its first two employees graduate from the Supervisory Building Blocks series. The two employees are Arturo Cole, and Dr. Ali Shaqlaih. More than 30 UNT Dallas employees are enrolled in the program, and are expected to graduate within the year.
