The University of North Texas at Dallas is proud to be one of three North Texas universities named a “Best Regional University in the West” by U.S. News and World Report. The University of Dallas and Texas Wesleyan University also were named in the 2018 Best Colleges report.

In total, 21 Texas schools earned a spot on the list, which had 95 ranked spots.

“Regional Universities” is a classification that offers a full range of undergraduate programs, some master’s programs and few doctoral programs, per U.S. News & World Report. The Regional Universities list was also broken into geographical areas: West, Midwest, South and North.

In contrast, “National Universities” offer a full range of bachelor's, master’s and doctoral programs as well as prioritize faculty research. Houston's Rice University was No. 14 — the best in Texas — on the overall National University list.

The 2018 Best Regional Universities West rankings were based on 15 indicators including:

  • Graduate and retention rates
  • Undergraduate academic reputation based on academic peer surveys
  • Faculty resources, such as class size and faculty pay
  • Student selectivity, including admissions test scores
