Upward Bound

 Purpose:

The Federal TRIO Programs - The Upward Bound Program began in 1964 through the Economic Opportunity Act to address the High Poverty Levels within our country. To address additional student needs not taken in consideration with the initial programming for our most disadvantaged students; our Federal Government provided expanded resources via Talent Search, Ronald E. McNair Scholars and Educational Opportunity Centers to create extension programs to ensure student access and completion of Undergraduate studies.

The TRIO Programs at the University of North Texas at Dallas were designed to support the academic development of students within our partner schools of Dallas ISD and surrounding school districts. The programs which will be provided include but will not be limited to:

  • Upward Bound – Targeted Academic and Social/ Emotional support for High School Students currently residing in Low Social Economic areas with low Post-baccalaureate Completion Rates. Additionally, the student attend schools with High Drop Out and Low College Going Rates.

  • Ronald E. McNair Scholars – Targeted Academic and Social/ Emotional Support Low income, 1st Generation College students and/or Underrepresented Post-Baccalaureate Groups i.e. African – American, Hispanic and Native American students.

The TRIO Programs at UNT Dallas will be integral partners with our Partner School Districts by providing services to their underserved students of promise with intentional programs that support the holistic development of their students. The goal is to provide a vision, framework and detailed plan for each student to successfully attain a High School Diploma and Collegiate Degree in order to become active participants of our society.
