Educational Talent Search

College Access Program

graduate holding diploma

The UNT Dallas Educational Talent Search program offers free college, career and financial aid information to junior high and high school students.

Talent Search identifies and selects students who demonstrate the potential for post-secondary enrollment and provides them with the motivation and support to enroll in a program of post-secondary education (college, university, technical or vocational school) after high school graduation.

Each year, our program is funded to serve 500 students from the surrounding areas!

Mission Statement

Develop Students’ Academic, Emotional, Ethical, Physical and Social Skills for Transformational Impact in Life, School and Leadership.

Purpose:

The Federal TRIO Program, Talent Search, began in 1964 through the Economic Opportunity Act to address the high poverty levels within our country. Its goal is to increase the rate at which participants complete secondary education and enroll in and graduate from institutions of postsecondary education.

Talent Search Services

The UNT Dallas Talent Search program provides counseling during the school day on academics, careers, and financial topics. We support students as they graduate from high school, transition to college and pursue their degrees.

We help students find their most suitable college by covering the following topics:

  • Career Exploration
  • College Information
  • College Admissions
  • Financial Literacy
  • College Success Strategies

Our staff helps students identify possible careers and understand the educational requirements for their careers. We also help students manage the college application process and complete financial aid applications

Program Eligibility and Application

Educational Talent Search is designed for students who are low-income, families who meet the federal TRIO program requirements found here, and/ or who could be first generation college graduates (parents or legal guardians have not graduated from a 4-year institution).

Our students must be in 6th - 12th grade at one of our participating schools, U.S. citizens or Permanent Residents. Scholars commit to remaining in the Talent Search Program until high school graduation, as well as demonstrate potential for post – secondary enrollment as defined by:

  • Expressing a desire to go to college;
  • Maintaining a GPA of 2.75 or higher;
  • Exhibiting good citizenship and leadership skills.

If you are interested in becoming a participant in the UNT Dallas Educational Talent Search program, please complete a digital Scholar Interest Form to have an application emailed to you.
