As reported yesterday, a shooting occurred on the University of North Texas at Dallas campus on November 17, just before 7 p.m. A UNT Dallas student was shot by a non-student and taken to the hospital. According to authorities, the student is in stable condition. Our thoughts are with our student and the student’s family.
The suspect fled in a vehicle, crashed, and was apprehended by the Dallas Police Department. Dallas Police are investigating the incident. Thank you to our UNT Dallas Police Department and DPD for quickly and effectively responding. Thanks also to Dallas Fire and Rescue for swiftly arriving and transporting our student to the hospital.
Counselors have been available to UNT Dallas students since the incident took place and will remain available to our university community throughout the day on Monday. For confidential information regarding counseling, please contact Dr. Shanda Riley at 972.338.1779, or email studentaffairs@untdallas.edu.
Our offices, facilities and classrooms will be open as normal tomorrow at UNT Dallas, as well as the UNT Dallas College of Law. As reminder, our offices close at noon on Wednesday, November 21, for the Thanksgiving holiday.
Thank you,
