Student AI Use

AI can help you learn, study, organize information, explore ideas, and prepare for your future career. At UNT Dallas, you are encouraged to use AI thoughtfully and responsibly when it is allowed by your instructor and appropriate for the task. Your coursework should still reflect your own learning, reasoning, creativity, and voice.

Because AI expectations may differ by course and assignment, always follow your instructor’s guidance. When expectations are not clear, ask before using AI on work that will be submitted for a grade.

Using AI in your courses

AI can be useful when it helps you understand material, develop ideas, prepare for class, or improve your own work. It should not replace the reading, thinking, writing, problem-solving, or practice that help you learn. When using AI, keep drafts, notes, prompts, or other records if your instructor asks you to document your process.

  • For studying: Ask AI to quiz you, explain concepts in different ways, or generate practice questions.
  • For writing: Ask AI to help you brainstorm, organize an outline, identify unclear sentences, or suggest revision questions.
  • For research: Use AI cautiously to generate search terms or summarize themes, but verify sources through library databases or other reliable sources.
  • For presentations: Ask AI to help organize ideas, identify possible audience questions, or refine slide titles.
  • For career preparation: Use AI to practice interview responses, improve a resume draft, or explore skill requirements in your field.

Academic Integrity and AI

Student use of AI tools is governed by the UNT Dallas Student Code of Conduct . Appropriate AI use depends on the course, assignment, and instructor expectations. Misusing AI can raise academic integrity concerns, especially if you submit AI-generated work as your own, use AI when it is not allowed, fabricate sources, or fail to disclose AI use when disclosure is required. When in doubt, ask your instructor before using AI for graded work.
