All students who receive who receive notetaker accommodations must attend class, but they may need notes taken for them due to various reasons. Some of the common reasons are that the student is unable to use their own hands to write notes, they write slowly and cannot maintain the necessary writing pace in class, or they cannot keep up with the number of notes needed for a class.
