For Blind and/or Deaf Students

There is an Exemption Program in Texas with the purpose of helping to enable blind and/or Deaf students to attend public colleges or universities in the state of Texas. Read below for more information:

Eligibility Requirements

  • Resident of Texas
  • Declare a program of study at the time you apply for the exemption
  • Provide certification from the Texas Workforce Solutions Vocational Rehabilitation Programs of status as a blind person or a Deaf person
  • Enroll in classes for which the college receives tax support (courses that do not depend solely on student tuition and fees to cover the costs)
  • For more information about the GPA requirement, award amounts, and the limit on total number of cumulative hours covered through this program, contact the UNT Dallas Financial Aid department.

Application Process

Provide the Registrar with the following items:

  • Certification from the Texas Workforce Solutions Vocational Rehabilitation Programs of status as a blind person or a Deaf person
  • A written statement of purpose indicating which certificate, degree program, or professional enhancement will be pursued
  • Copy of high school transcript
  • Letter of recommendation
  • Proof that all UNT Dallas admissions requirements have been met
