What is Accounting?

Accountants work in all kinds of organizations, performing a wide variety of activities. The accounting profession is not just sitting in an office staring at numbers. In addition to tax and audit, accountants work in many other areas such as strategic planning, data analysis, government, nonprofit, environmental, international, financial planning, information technology, entertainment, travel, hospitality, fashion, sports, automotive, logistics, real estate, oil & gas, education, consulting, forensic investigations and entrepreneur. No matter what area of accounting interests you, earning an accounting degree from UNT Dallas is a great way to start your career!

Why earn a bachelor’s degree in Accounting from UNT Dallas?

Accounting majors at UNT Dallas will not only find the path to a degree to be affordable, but you will receive personal attention from our faculty and staff as you make your way through the courses that are part of your degree plan. The courses you take have been designed to help prepare you to work in today’s accounting environment. During your time at UNT Dallas, you will engage in a variety of experiential learning opportunities. Some students participate in the Volunteer Income Tax Assistance program (VITA) each spring, while others choose to complete internships with participating companies. 

UNT Dallas offers several certification opportunities to accounting graduates, such as the Certified Managerial Accountant (CMA), Certified Fraud Examiner (CFE), Certified Internal Auditor (CIA), Certified in Strategy and Competitive Analysis (CSCA) and the Enrolled Agent (EA), among others. These certifications can enhance your career-readiness. Best of all, accounting majors can work on any of these at the same time you are completing your undergraduate accounting degree. The undergraduate accounting courses will also count toward the requirements necessary to sit for the Certified Public Accounting (CPA) exam. Accounting majors can complete the additional requirements by going on to earn an MBA with an accounting concentration here at UNT Dallas

What career opportunities are available with an Accounting degree?

UNT Dallas accounting graduates will be prepared to be responsible, effective and ethical leaders no matter what industry, company or career field they choose to enter.
