Public Leadership Faculty Member Advances Global Scholarship Through Prestigious Fulbright Appointment

The University of North Texas at Dallas is proud to recognize Dr. James Agbodzakey, Director of the Urban SERCH Institute and Professor in the Master of Public Leadership & Administration (MPLA) program, for his recent service as a Fulbright Specialist at Panjab University in Chandigarh, India.

The highly competitive Fulbright Specialist Program connects U.S. scholars and professionals with institutions around the world to strengthen teaching, research and institutional partnerships. During his appointment, Dr. Agbodzakey collaborated with faculty, researchers, administrators and public-sector professionals to advance public administration education, strengthen research capacity, and foster international collaboration.

Hosted by the Department of Public Administration at Panjab University, Dr. Agbodzakey’s work focused on enhancing teaching excellence, curriculum innovation and scholarly research while supporting India’s National Education Policy (NEP 2020). His engagement also reinforced the Fulbright Program’s mission of promoting mutual understanding through educational exchange and international cooperation.

Among the highlights of his visit was delivering the first USIEF Freedom 250 Public Lecture in India on “American Excellence in Public Administration and Public Policy.” He also led workshops on research methodology, scholarly writing, research topic development and strategies for producing impactful academic research. These sessions provided faculty and graduate students with practical tools to strengthen research productivity and academic excellence.

The significance of Dr. Agbodzakey’s work extended beyond the classroom. His appointment fostered new international partnerships, strengthened institutional relationships and showcased UNT Dallas’ commitment to addressing complex public challenges through scholarship, collaboration and leadership.
