Keith Maddox recently joined The University of North Texas at Dallas (UNT Dallas) as Chief Compliance Officer. The name of the office Maddox leads is now called the Office of Compliance and Integrity.

"The Office of Institutional Compliance name has been changed to the Office of Compliance and Integrity. The name was changed to better align with the roles and responsibilities of the office and to reiterate the importance of our value of Courageous Integrity into our culture," said Maddox.

In his role, Maddox will ensure that faculty, staff and administration understand the requirements of applicable laws, and that they have access to the training and guidance they need to carry out their duties in an effective and ethical manner.

"Viewed from its simplest definition, compliance is the process of making sure shareholders follow all laws, regulations, standards, and ethical practices," Maddox explained. "This is paramount in the area of higher education where the needs of students, staff, and administrators must be balance against the intricate number of regulatory requirements from federal, state, and certifying entities."

Before joining UNT Dallas, Maddox was a senior auditor for the City of Dallas. Prior to his position with the city, he spent more than 30 years in the federal government in management and leadership roles. Maddox held supervisory and operational positions with the U.S. Navy, U.S. Postal Service, NASA, and the U.S. Department of Education.

Maddox holds a Bachelor of Science degree from Birmingham-Southern College and a Master of Business Administration from the University of Alabama at Birmingham. He is a Certified Internal Auditor, Certified Government Auditing Professional, and a proud Navy veteran.

Here at UNT Dallas, Maddox will oversee the university's extensive record keeping, tracking, and oversight mechanisms for ensuring compliance, with a dedication to continuous review and improvement.

Compliance at the individual employee level is knowing and doing what is right in conducting UNT Dallas business. At the institutional level, it is applying sound management practices in conducting university business to achieve our organizational goals and objectives, while maintaining the highest standards of ethics and compliance. Compliance is accurately identifying risks and ensuring that UNT Dallas resources are allocated in a manner that provides reasonable assurance to executive management that the university's most damaging risks are adequately controlled.

Part of the UNT Dallas mission is to strengthen communities; Maddox's civic engagement will benefit the university on and off campus. He is active member of the community and serves on many nonprofit community-based organizations.
