Policies

 

Administrative Withdrawal

A student who fails to enroll in any courses toward the J.D. degree during a fall or spring semester, without receiving a Leave of Absence, will be administratively withdrawn from the College of Law.

Code of Conduct

In its preamble to the Model Rules of Professional Responsibility, the American Bar Association states: “A lawyer, as a member of the legal profession, is a representative of clients, an officer of the legal system, and a public citizen having special responsibility for the quality of justice.”

Completion of Lockstep Courses

Students may not elect to delay taking lockstep courses or to take lockstep courses out of sequence.

Credit for Non-Law School Courses Taken through the UNT System

With advance approval, students may enroll in up to two courses in the UNT Dallas Graduate School or UNT Toulouse Graduate School for up to six credits toward law school graduation.

Distance Learning Courses

No student may be permitted to count more than 15 credit hours from distance learning courses toward the JD degree, whether through courses taken at UNT Dallas College of Law or credits transferred from another institution.

Segment Credit

To receive credit for completing a segment, a student must receive a passing grade on the assignment that provides the segment credit, whether or not the student receives a passing grade in the course providing the segment credit.

After completion of the required course work in the first two full academic semesters, students enrolled in the part-time division may register for "daytime" classes (that is, courses offered before 5 p.m.) after priority registration ends or if the Associate Dean for Academic Affairs approves th

Transfer Credit For Visits To An ABA-Approved Law School

UNT Dallas College of Law students may participate in study abroad programs that are approved by the American Bar Association.

Transferring Between the Full-Time and Part-Time Divisions

When students enroll at the College of Law, they enter in either the full-time day division or the part-time evening division.

Using Technology and Laptops in the Classroom

Technology is important at the UNT Dallas College of Law. The COL will use educational technologies such as Canvas, CLIO, and “lecture capture” to further its educational mission. In addition, graduates of the COL should be capable of effectively using technology in the practice of law.
