April Barnes
Chief Financial Officer
April Barnes is a familiar face within the UNT System, she has served in many positions over the last decade in budget, finance, analytics, and accounting. Her previous positions include Assistant Vice President for Budget & Planning at UNT Dallas (2015-2018) and then Associate Vice President for Budget & Analytics at UNT (2018-2020). She had been serving as the Associate Controller at UNT System Administration (2021-2024) behind the scenes to improve accounting processes and implement innovative accounting software.
April specializes in process improvement and automation, financial planning, reporting & analysis, budget development & administration, and relationship building. As a first-generation college graduate, she is passionate about the life changing opportunities higher education grants an individual. It is her honor to be a part of the UNT Dallas mission and to serve our students and their families.
April is a certified public accountant (Texas) and has her bachelor’s degree from Texas A&M University and her master’s degree from Texas A&M University-Commerce. She enjoys good food and live music and spending time with her husband and two children.
