TSIA Exemption Form

TSIA Exemptions

Not all incoming students need to take the TSIA Assessment and can verify if they are exempt. Students with a TSIA exemption may be eligible to enroll in an entry-level college course or be in progress towards an entry-level college course.

Are you Exempt from TSIA?

There are various ways you may be exempt from the TSIA exam. Listed below are a few ways that you may be TSIA exempt. If exempt, please complete the TSIA exemption form  and return to our office.

Type of TSIA Exemptions

English Language Arts and Reading: Composite 23 AND English 19

Math: Composite score 23 AND Math 19+

Required Documentation:  Submit scores to UNT Dallas code: 6366

 

 

English Language Arts and Reading: English and Reading combined scores of 40+

Math: Math score of 22+

Required Documentation: Submit scores to UNT Dallas code: 6366

English Language Arts and Reading:  Evidence Based Reading/Writing 480+

Math: Math score 530+

Required Documentation: Send scores to UNT Dallas code: 5999

English Language Arts and Reading:  Texas English Bridge

Math: Texas Math Bridge

Required Documentation: Copy of Completion Certificates (screeshots are unacceptable)

Depending on the college-level courses you have already successfully completed,

 you may be exempt from taking the TSIA Assessment in one or more areas. 

The TSIA Coordinator will review your college or university transcript(s) to determine whether the courses you’ve completed meet the necessary qualifications for exemption. 

Required Documentation: Copy of transcript documenting course(s) completed and grade(s). Transcripts should be sent to UNT Dallas Registrar's Office

 

Students who have completed an Associate’s/Baccalaureate degree from a domestic accredited institution of higher education will be exempt in both areas of TSIA.

Required Documentation: Copy of Transcript confirming that the degree was conferred. Transcripts should be sent to UNT Dallas Registrar's Office

You may be exempt if you were honorably discharged, retired, released from active duty as a member of the U.S. Armed Forces, the Texas National Guard, or served as a member of a reserve component of the U.S. Armed Forces on or after August 1990.

Required Documentation: Copy of DD214

English Language Arts and Reading: Level 2 on the English 3 End-of-Course Exam

Math: Level 2 on the Algebra 2 End-of-Course Exam

Required Documentation: Copy of Test Scores (may be found on your transcript)

English Language Arts and Reading: 

English Language & Composition: 3 

History: 3 

Government and Politics: 3 

Math:

Calculus: 3

Statistics: 3

Required Documentation: Send scores to UNT Dallas code:5999 (may be on transcript) 

 

English Language Arts and Reading:

Essay: 5+ OR 

ELAR 945+

OR

ELAR <945 and 

Diagnostic 5 and English 4

Math:

Math 950+ 

OR

DMAT 6

Required Documentation:  Scores are available immediately after exam. However, we require your consent to search for scores.

If you are exempt based from any of the listed exemptions, please complete and return the form below to the Office of Testing Services. This form lets us know that you have already met the requirements for TSIA in some way and should be excused from taking the exam.

We ask that you complete all fields that apply to you as completely and accurately as possible. Once all the information provided has been verified and your supporting documents have been received/retrieved, the scores will be entered into your UNTD student account and the TSIA Hold will be removed.

  • TSIA Assessment Exemption Form - Freshman
  • TSIA Assessment Exemption Form - Transfer

Processing times are as follows:

  • ACT/SAT/CLEP/AP/IB: 4-6 Weeks
  • Military/Bridge/TSIA: 2-3 Business days
