Not all incoming students need to take the TSI Assessment and can verify if they are exempt. Students with a TSI exemption may be eligible to enroll in an entry-level college course or be in progress towards an entry-level college course.
There are various ways you may be exempt from the TSI exam. Listed below are a few ways that you may be TSI exempt. If exempt, please complete the TSI exemption form and return to our office.
English Language Arts and Reading: Composite 23 AND English 19
Math: Composite score 23 AND Math 19+

English Language Arts and Reading: English and Reading combined scores of 40+
Math: Math score of 22+

English Language Arts and Reading: Evidence Based Reading/Writing 480+

Depending on the college-level courses you have already successfully completed,
you may be exempt from taking the TSI Assessment in one or more areas.
The TSI Coordinator will review your college or university transcript(s) to determine whether the courses you’ve completed meet the necessary qualifications for exemption.

Students who have completed an Associate’s/Baccalaureate degree from a domestic accredited institution of higher education will be exempt in both areas of TSI.

You may be exempt if you were honorably discharged, retired, released from active duty as a member of the U.S. Armed Forces, the Texas National Guard, or served as a member of a reserve component of the U.S. Armed Forces on or after August 1990.

Math: Level 2 on the Algebra 2 End-of-Course Exam

Required Documentation: Scores are available immediately after exam. However, we require your consent to search for scores.
If you are exempt based from any of the listed exemptions, please complete and return the form below to the Office of Testing Services. This form lets us know that you have already met the requirements for TSI in some way and should be excused from taking the exam.
We ask that you complete all fields that apply to you as completely and accurately as possible. Once all the information provided has been verified and your supporting documents have been received/retrieved, the scores will be entered into your UNTD student account and the TSI Hold will be removed.
