Academic Advising Policies

The Academic Advising Center supports admitted undergraduate students throughout their educational journey at UNT Dallas. The following guidelines provide important information about the appointment process for current students.

  • University policy places an "Advising Required" hold on the accounts of all new and returning undergraduate students at UNT Dallas. Students on academic alert or probation will have a "GPA Alert" hold. Any student with an "Advising Required," "GPA Alert," or "TSI Not Complete" hold in their student center must schedule an appointment with an academic before registering for classes.
  • This process helps students choose courses that support their academic success. Additionally, advisors address student questions related to these holds and refer them to the appropriate departments or staff for further assistance.

When visiting the office, help create a productive environment for everyone. Arrive on time, be courteous in your interactions, and come prepared with questions or documents.

  • The Academic Advising Center is available Monday – Friday from 8am-5pm to assist students with their academic planning needs.
  • To schedule your appointment, visit EAB Navigate OR call (972) 338-1645 and our Front Desk team will help you schedule.
  • Appointments may be scheduled up to 48 hours in advance, however, same-day appointments are not available.
  • If you are more than 10 minutes late for a 30/60-minute appointment or more than 3 minutes late for a 15-minute appointment, your appointment will be rescheduled or canceled to accommodate other students.
  • After you schedule an appointment, a confirmation message will be sent to your UNTD email via our scheduling system, EAB Navigate. Please review the details prior to your appointment.

  • If you need to cancel or reschedule your appointment, e-mail Advising@untdallas.edu or call Academic Advising Center at (972) 338-1645.
  • We ask that you contact us at least 24 hours in advance as possible so that we can make the best effort to offer that appointment time to another student.

  • To be fair to all students, we have a no-show policy. A no-show occurs when a student misses their appointment without cancelling in advance.
  • Please show up on time to your appointment. Students who arrive after appointment grace period for their scheduled appointment will be recorded as a “no show” on their advising record.
  • 2 or more no-shows in 10 days will temporarily pause your ability to self-schedule appointments.

University Policies

Take the time to read these policies carefully—understanding university guidelines can help you make informed decisions, avoid preventable obstacles, and stay on track toward your goals.

Please Read and Understand University Policies

Undergraduate students who enrolled in higher education for the first time after fall 2007 will not be permitted to drop a total of more than six (6) courses, including any course a transfer student dropped at another institution unless the student shows good cause for dropping more than six (6) courses. For more information on the 6 Drop Rule, please see the policy listed at the Registrar's office website. Please also see "Limitation on Course Drops" under Enrollment in the UNT Dallas Catalog.

Applications for graduation are available online at the beginning of your graduating semester. Login to your UNT Dallas account to access your graduation application. For steps on how to apply, please view information available. If you have questions or concerns please contact the Registrars Office at 972-780-3664.

A student wishing to enroll concurrently at another institution must first secure permission from the Office of Student Financial Aid and Scholarships. They can be reached by email or (972) 780-3662.

A student may drop a course prior to the census date (the 12th class day of the fall or spring semester or the equivalent dates in a summer session) in the Office of the Registrar. Courses dropped prior to the census date will not appear on the student's transcript and will not be included in the limitation of dropped courses. For more information on course drops, please see the policy listed at the Registrar's office website. Please also see "Course Drops" under Enrollment in the UNT Dallas Catalog.

Students wanting to drop a course after the census date will need to fill out the Registration (Add/Drop/Cancel/Withdraw) form.

A student may take a course a second or subsequent time. The Office of the Registrar will post duplications at the request of the student, at the request of an academic advisor or upon review of the student’s record. Until a duplication is posted the Office of the Registrar includes a repeated course in the student’s cumulative record of hours attempted and grade points earned. For more information, please see the "Course Duplications" policy listed under Academic Information and Regulations in the UNT Dallas Catalog.

An incoming freshman or any undergraduate in good standing with a C average or better on all work attempted in residence at UNT Dallas may schedule one course a term/semester on the pass/no pass option. Seniors may elect more than one pass/no pass course during their final term/semester. For information, please see the "pass/no pass option" policy listed under Academic Information and Regulations in the UNT Dallas Catalog.

The normal load for full-time undergraduate students is 15 semester hours for each fall or spring term/semester, or 30 hours for the nine-month academic year. The normal load for full-time students is 12 hours for the summer term/semester. For more information on student loads, please see the policy listed at the Registrar's office website.

A student may withdraw from UNT Dallas any time prior to two (2) weeks before the first day of final examinations for the fall or spring semester or the equivalent dates for summer session. For more information on withdrawing, please see the policy listed at the Registrar's office website.

Any student who withdraws from UNT Dallas prior to the end of the sixth week of classes (or the equivalent dates for summer sessions) is given grades of W and is not penalized with a reduced CGPA. Any student who withdraws after this period, but at least two weeks before the first day of final exams (summer session, six class meetings prior to finals; three week session, three class meetings prior to finals), is given grades of W or WF depending upon the student’s grade average at the time of withdrawal. Grades of WF are included as hours attempted in calculating a student’s minimum UNT Dallas cumulative grade point average required to remain in good standing. A student who does not officially withdraw from the university is held responsible for grades of F and is placed on probation or suspended from the university if the grades of F bring the CGPA below the minimum required.
