Meet with Your Advisor

1. Choosing the Right Appointment

Selecting the service that best matches your needs helps us prepare and provide the support you're looking for. Whether you're planning your first semester, changing majors, or just checking in, choosing the right option ensures your Advisor is ready to assist you effectively.

Review the advising appointments carefully—its a small step that makes a big difference.

Advising Appointments

Course mapping appointments are to help you align your academic goals with degree requirements. Advisors work with you one-on-one to map out courses, track degree progress, explore major and minor options, and stay on course for graduation.

Express Registration appointments are brief, 10–15 minute sessions focused solely on course registration. These quick appointments are intended for students who are not currently enrolled in classes and are not designed to cover broader academic planning or issues that require extended advising. To check current availability, please see here.

IMPORTANT: If you've already registered for classes for the upcoming semester, your appointment may be rescheduled to a regular advising session tailored more specifically to your needs.

A Graduation Check is a service offered by the Academic Advising Center to help students identify the remaining courses needed to complete their degree requirements in final their semester(s).

IMPORTANT: Priority will be given to students who have applied for graduation.

Change of Major appointment is for students considering or planning a major change. An academic Advisor will help you explore new major options, review degree requirements, and determine how your completed coursework applies to the new program.

New Trailblazer Advising appointments are designed to help new students plan their academic journey by reviewing degree requirements, selecting courses, and answering questions about registration and campus resources. It’s your first step toward a successful start at UNT Dallas.

Non-Registration appointments are for questions or concerns not directly related to specified services offered by the Academic Advising Center.

Post-bacc Grad Prep appointments guide course planning and registration for post-bacc students.

Registration Advising appointments are 30 minute sessions with an academic advisor to plan for the upcoming semester, review academic progress, discuss course selections, and confirm that students are meeting their degree requirements.

Students who are returning from academic probation or status not in good academic standing are required to complete SPARE program. Advisors will work with you to develop a personalized plan to improve your academic performance, understand university policies, and connect you with campus resources to support your success.

2. Scheduling an Appointment

Ready to schedule your advising appointment? You can self-schedule online through EAB Navigate, or contact us by phone or email. Choose the option that works best for you!

IMPORTANT: Students who arrive 10 or more minutes late to a 30-minute scheduled regular advising appointment will be marked as a 'no show'. If you are 3 or more minutes late to an Express Registration appointment, you will be marked as a 'no show'.

We strongly encourage students to schedule their advising appointments as early as possible to secure a time that works for them.

Remember, when a date isn’t visible, it means Advisor capacity is full or none are available. If you have a conflict on your calendar, appointment times won’t show up in EAB Navigate.

3. Preparing for Your Appointment

To get the most out of your advising session, review your degree requirements, bring a list of courses you're interested in, and come with questions. Completing any required forms or tasks in advance will help ensure a productive conversation.

What to Expect

Prior to your advising session, we need you to:

1. Review the Academic Advising Checklist

This will help you prepare for your upcoming appointment with your Academic Advisor.

See Checklist

2. Verify Your Personal Information

Log into your myUNTD Student Portal to confirm your contact and personal details. For assistance with updates, visit the Student Solutions Center or check the online guide.

3. Resolve Any Registration Holds

You will not be able to register for classes until all holds have been cleared. We strongly recommend resolving your TSI and Meningitis holds before your advising appointment to avoid delays in registration.

During your appointment, you will:

  • Have the opportunity to discuss your academic goals and/or needs
  • Review recommended course options based on your degree plan and interests
  • Begin planning and registering for your semester classes

After your appointment, you should:

  • Register for any remaining classes discussed during your appointment
  • Check your email for follow-up messages and brief survey from your Academic Advisor
