History

The mascot promotes school spirit and embodies the phrase: Blaze Your Trail. This Trailblazer uplifts the campus community, friends and family of the university, and our university partners. As part of a redesign in 2019 to reflect the branding changes, UNT Dallas Marketing & Student Affairs staff partnered to bring us a new, fiery Trailblazer. The first mascot was named Jagger, and later renamed to Jax after a campus-wide vote.

Be the Mascot!

The Office of Student Engagement hires a student to serve as the mascot. The student(s) alternate at various events on and off campus. The identity of student(s) is also kept confidential. 

 

Apply Now! Do you have what it takes to be Jax? Come show us your spots Trailblazers, on August 20th or August 22nd from 10:30 AM – 12:00 PM in Campus Hall!     Benefits

    Your first and second year as Jax, you will receive $250.00 per semester (Fall/Spring). Your third year and beyond as Jax you will receive $500.00 per semester. If you are Jax all 4 years, at your commencement ceremony you may wear Jax’s feet to reveal your identity as Jax!

    Eligibility Criteria:

    • Part-time or full-time student, 2.25 GPA / Good academic and university standing  
    • At least 5’6 to fit in the suit
    • Must be flexible with light and heavy demand; Ability to work required events on scheduled nights and weekends
    • High energy and enthusiasm to promote school spirit
      Ongoing, dependable, and committed with a willingness and desire to have fun
    • Strong communication skills, verbal and non-verbal
    • Ability to handle the demands of a full body costume
    • Mascot experience preferred, not required.
    • Performers are not guaranteed a spot from year to year. Each performer will be evaluated yearly.
