Responsible AI

What is Responsible AI?

Responsible AI prepares students to use artificial intelligence effectively, ethically, and thoughtfully within their discipline and future profession. Rather than focusing on specific AI tools, students develop the knowledge, judgment, and adaptability needed to use AI responsibly as technologies continue to evolve.

Responsible AI includes learning how to use AI to enhance learning and productivity, evaluate AI-generated information critically, understand ethical and legal considerations, and apply AI appropriately within disciplinary and professional contexts.

Why Focus on Responsible AI?

Artificial intelligence is rapidly reshaping nearly every profession. Employers increasingly expect graduates to understand not only how to use AI tools, but also when, why, and whether AI should be used. Graduates who can thoughtfully integrate AI into their work while exercising human judgment will be better prepared to succeed in an AI-enabled workforce.

Responsible AI helps students:

  • Use AI to enhance learning, creativity, and productivity.
  • Evaluate AI-generated information critically.
  • Understand ethical, legal, and disciplinary considerations.
  • Recognize the strengths and limitations of AI.
  • Adapt as AI technologies continue to evolve throughout their careers.
