To continue accessing systems protected by Duo multi-factor authentication (MFA), you must ensure that both the Duo Mobile app and your phone’s operating system (OS) are up to date.
Outdated versions may stop working without warning and can prevent you from logging in to email, VPN, and other university services.
Duo periodically releases app updates and ends support for older phone operating systems. Devices running unsupported OS versions may experience:
· Duo push notifications not arriving or timing out
· Duo Mobile failing to open or respond
· Inability to install or update Duo Mobile
· Loss of access to Duo-protected services such as email, VPN, and internal applications
Keeping your phone’s operating system and Duo Mobile current ensures reliable authentication and helps protect your account
Step 1: Update the Duo Mobile App
Confirm Duo Mobile is updated to the latest version:
· iOS (iPhone/iPad): Update via the Apple App Store
· Android: Update via Google Play Store
Step 2: Confirm Your phone’s Operating System Version

Note: Duo Mobile version 4.85 and newer do not support older operating systems. If your device is below the required version, you must update your phone’s OS before updating Duo Mobile.

Beginning April 16, 2026, Duo will no longer support:
· iOS 16
· Android 11
To avoid login disruptions after this date, devices must be running:
· iOS 17 or newer
· Android 12 or newer
Devices that cannot be updated will no longer be able to use Duo Mobile
If your phone does not support the required operating system:
· Duo Mobile will no longer function
· You may lose access to Duo-protected services
· Alternative authentication methods are available
