Dean's Welcome

Welcome to the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences at the University of North Texas at Dallas.

A college education is not only preparation for a career - it is a time of becoming. It is where knowledge takes shape, confidence grows, and perspective deepens. It is where students begin to understand not just what they can do, but who they are becoming, and how they will contribute to the world around them.

That understanding guides everything we do in the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences.

We are committed to the success and well-being of every student who joins us. Growth is never one-dimensional. It is intellectual, but also personal and human. It happens in classrooms where ideas are explored, in conversations that challenge and expand us, in experiences that take learning beyond campus, and in the relationships that help students feel seen, supported, and capable of more than they imagined.

Our faculty are extraordinary educators and mentors. They are scholars and researchers, yes - but more than that, they are guides in the truest sense. They listen closely, teach with purpose, and invest themselves in the journeys of their students. Many study learning and mentorship itself, bringing that insight into every classroom, every project, and every conversation. They are here because they believe education can open doors, and because they dedicate themselves to helping students walk through them.

We are intentional about preparing students for what comes next. Through Classroom to Career experiences - including internships, service-learning, community engagement, undergraduate research, and other high-impact practices - students learn not only ideas, but application. They build experience, clarity, and confidence in their ability to move forward with purpose.

We are especially proud of our commitment to student research. Across the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences, students work side by side with award-winning faculty on questions that matter - questions about people, communities, systems, and the world we share. Many share their work at professional conferences, and some contribute to published scholarship. This spirit of inquiry is supported by our new $100 million STEM building, a space designed for discovery, collaboration, and innovation. We are also proud of our pre-health pathways, which prepare students for essential careers in fields where compassion and expertise are urgently needed.

The liberal arts and sciences are not distant from life; rather, they are deeply woven into it. They teach us how to think with clarity, speak with purpose, solve problems with care, and understand a world that is constantly changing. They prepare students not only for work, but for thoughtful participation in the world they will inherit and shape.

Above all, I hope every student who comes here understands this: you belong. You are seen. You are supported. And you are capable of more than you may yet realize.

At the heart of UNT Dallas, the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences is where students discover their strengths, expand their possibilities, and prepare to shape the world around them.

It is an honor to serve as dean of this remarkable College. I invite you to step into this community, to explore what excites you, and to discover all that the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences has to offer.

Warm Regards,
