What Is a Bilingual Elementary Education Degree?
A Bilingual Elementary Education degree from UNT Dallas is the first step in becoming a certified teacher in bilingual preschool through sixth grade classrooms. Elementary Education majors can choose from three pathways: ESL, bilingual, or special education. Students in the Bilingual Elementary Education pathway will be prepared to teach all preschool and elementary students in Spanish and English in all core subjects (math, science, social studies, and ELAR/SLAR).

What is the process for becoming a teacher in Texas?
- Apply to the College of Education and Human Development at UNT Dallas
- Obtain a Bachelor’s Degree in education from an accredited university such as UNT Dallas
- Pass certification exams for your certification pathway (EC-6, Bilingual, ESL, Special Education, etc.)
- Submit a state application for certification with the Texas Education Agency
- Complete fingerprinting
