Scholarships, Grants, and Paid Student Teaching

General Scholarships

Most scholarships require you to fill out the FASFA. The FASFA opens each year October 1.

  • UNT Dallas Scholarships - Funds available through donatations by university partners and alumni.
  • City Year- Offers students the chance to be a paid volunteer or student teacher in Dallas ISD.
  • Charles Butt Scholarship for Aspiring Teachers- Up to $8,000-$10,000 annually. To be eligible for the scholarship, students must be committed to teaching in a Texas public school that is majority-economically disadvantaged school (meaning more than 50% of students are eligible for free or reduced lunch) or in a shortage subject area (specifically math, science, bilingual, or special education). Applicants must also exemplify the knowledge, skills, and values listed below. Preference is given to Texas residents.
  • College for All Texans-Scholarships for teacher aides (paraprofessionals. Tuition Exemption. You must have served as a paraprofessional for one year before receiving the funds.

TEACH Grant

Up to $4,000 a year. A Teacher Education Assistance for College and Higher Education (TEACH) Grant is different from other federal student grants because it requires you agree to complete a teaching service obligation as a condition for receiving the grant, and if you don't complete the service obligation, the TEACH Grant will be converted to a loan that you must repay, with interest. Contact the Certification Officer in the School of Education for more information.

 

Mathematics Teachers

  • National Council of Teachers of Mathematics.
  • Mathematics Education Trust- Deadline May 1. Sophomore Students- Prospective PK-6 Elementary Math Teachers. $10,000 maximum.
  • Mathematics Education Trust- Deadline May 1-Sophomore Students-Prospective 7-12 Math Teachers. $10,000 maximum.

 

Graduate Students (must have 4-year degree).
